What You See

A sailboat carrying figures glides across a luminous, phosphorescent sea. Above, the sky swirls with flower-like cloud formations in vibrant yellows, oranges, turquoise, and violet. The pastel medium gives everything a soft, glowing quality. The horizon sits low, letting the fantastic sky dominate the canvas.

Context

By this time Redon had left his dark "Noirs" period behind, shifting toward spirituality, hope, and light. This pastel represents that inner journey — an embrace of vibrant color and transcendence. Now at the Art Institute of Chicago, one of the first American museums to collect his work seriously.

For Your Space

The largest printable Redon in this collection at 25 × 21". The landscape format and luminous palette make it natural above a sofa or bed. Dreamy without being saccharine — the dark water grounds the floating flowers. Works in bedrooms, living rooms, or anywhere that needs calm with a touch of strangeness.
